FREE webinar, Aug 31st: Adobe Edge
11am PDT/ 2pm EDT
If you are trying to keep up with the latest technology on the web, things like HTML5 and CSS3, then Adobe Edge is for you.
In this 45 minute webinar, you'll get a close up look at the new Adobe Edge program, currently in public beta. Adobe Edge allows us to create animations for websites, using an easy to use interface. The animations are written using HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3 (not Flash). Edge focuses primarily on adding rich motion design to new or existing HTML projects, that runs beautifully on devices and desktops.

Adobe Edge—HTML5 animation made easy
Okay, so Flash is getting beat up a bit by the whole Apple thing. With the advent of HTML5 and the canvas tag, most developers declared Flash dead. Well, I say not so fast, they both have a place. To keep pace with the web and stay out front, Adobe has introduced Adobe Edge.
Currently available in Adobe Labs as a public beta, Adobe Edge is a new web motion and interaction design tool that allows designers to bring animated content to websites, using web standards like HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3.
After playing around with it, I found it to be sort of like Flash Catalyst or After Effects in how you approach it. Easy to use and it can create some pretty cool animations!
Check it out here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/edge/
Here's a simple animation that is all HTML5—that took me 1 minute to create, without ever having opened the app before (yes, you can do better):
Note: This won't work in every browser! New tech, right!?
Add a cool carousel of images/text to a web page in Dreamweaver
Video Length: (14:04)
Covers: any web page/blog (I use Dreamweaver)
There are lots of JQuery carousels out there - sort of like a slideshow that you can control with arrows, have autorun, the sky is the limit. This carousel is pretty neat and relatively easy to put in a page, even if you don't know much about jquery. I'll use Dreamweaver to insert this carousel from css-tricks.com.
Insert YouTube video into your webpage AND change the way it looks/plays
Video Length: (9:39)
Covers: any web page/blog (I use Dreamweaver)
Ever wanted to insert YouTube video into a web page or blog? I'll show you how to insert a youtube video using the newer <iframe> embed code that supports Flash and HTML5 playback. I'll also show you how to set parameters like autoplay, hiding the youtube logo, looping, hiding the suggested videos at the end and more. You don't have to use Dreamweaver. You can paste and change the video in a blog or other that accepts it.

I'm a seasoned web developer and web and print technology trainer, and an Adobe Certified Instructor in Acrobat X Pro, Illustrator CS5, Dreamweaver CS5, InDesign CS3 and Photoshop CS3.
